an introduction to french bureaucracy

So begins the saga of getting to France. I  had a meeting on Monday with information regarding the first steps in receiving my visa. The general idea conveyed is that the process is going to be long and tedious. Oh! the joy.

Here is a list of what must be compiled and completed in order for me to apply for and receive my long stay student visa.

1. Campus France
        a. preliminary application: CHECK
        b. tedious questionnaire: CHECK
        c. money order sent ( 3 week wait for confirmation): CHECK
        d. "attestation" received: WAITING
2. Visa
        a. make appointment at French consulate in Boston: TO DO
        b. proof of registration at school in France: CHECK
        c. financial guarantee (proof of pre-paid tuition and personal income): TO DO
        d. residence form: TO DO
        e. visa application form en français: TO DO
3. carte de séjour
        a. birth certificate (2 copies): TO DO
        b. french translation of birth certificate (notarized, 2 copies): TO DO
        c. photo copy of passport with visa: TO DO
        d. proof of registration at school in France: CHECK
4. miscellaneous
        a. many copies of passport photo: TO DO
